Booster Seat Laws Change - Effective January 1, 2012, the age to which children must remain in a car booster seat has increased to eight. Parents must properly buckle up all children to age eight into a car seat or booster seat in the back seat of the car. Children age eight or older who are not tall enough (4'9") for the seat belt to fit properly must ride in a booster or car seat. The price for violating this law is steep, and police can ticket parents or the driver: tickets start at $475 for each child not properly secured. In addition, drivers can be ticketed and receive a violation point on their driving record.
