“SCHOOL SMARTS” NIGHT - Feb 15th

School Smarts is a parent education program that helps parents and guardians become more knowledgeable and involved in their schools.  The program is based on statewide parent research and is being piloted in 23 elementary schools in California during the 2011-2012 school year.  It is supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, in partnership with the California State PTA. You and your family are invited to this night on Wed., Feb. 15th, 6-8 pm in our Multipurpose Room. Free dinner, free child care, and fun & educational art activity will be provided.  Please tear off and return the RSVP portion of the flyer that went home today. Future dates: February 28; March 6, 13, 20, 27; April 10, 2012 from 6:30-8 p.m.

You are Invited to a Special Event Presented by Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes!
Parents, educators, and professionals are invited to learn about their program for reading, comprehension, spelling and math.
The group will also discuss the causes and solutions for learning challenges-including the symptoms of dyslexia, hyperlexia, ADD/HD, and autism spectrum disorders.
They look forward to discussing the possibility of a seasonal learning clinic in Alameda.

New Car Seat Law

Booster Seat Laws Change - Effective January 1, 2012, the age to which children must remain in a car booster seat has increased to eight.  Parents must properly buckle up all children to age eight into a car seat or booster seat in the back seat of the car.  Children age eight or older who are not tall enough (4'9") for the seat belt to fit properly must ride in a booster or car seat. The price for violating this law is steep, and police can ticket parents or the driver:  tickets start at $475 for each child not properly secured.  In addition, drivers can be ticketed and receive a violation point on their driving record.  Here is a link to the Alameda Sun Article:

Franklin Elementary Highlighted at Board of Education Meeting on January 10

Ms. Fetterly and Franklin teachers Ms. Esmat, Ms. KernKamp, and Ms. McMahon presented our school's yearly report to the Board of Education on January 10, celebrating Franklin’s many achievements and strong programs. Franklin third-grader Cora Abrams-McCabe read a sample of her work to the Board and fifth-graders Max Palmer, Dylan Aubrejuan, and Thomas Zenner lead the flag salute at the opening of the meeting. They all rose to the occasion and did a wonderful job.

The AEF Thanksgiving Camps

The AEF Thanksgiving Camps started enrolling today.  They will run on Nov 21 and 22.  Prices rise on Nov 11, so please enroll now to avoid the price increase.

The camps being offered are:
  • Sports Camp (if it rains this will be held in the Lincoln Middle School gym)
  • Art & Gift Making Camp
  • Engineering FUNdamentals Camp
